How lucky we are to be representing the wonderful South West of England.
From the rugged Cornish coast with breathtaking views, heading inland is Poldark country with its pumping engines working the tin mines, followed by the smell of Cornish pastes, mmmmmm.
We cross the Tamar River, turn right into Plymouth, discover the history of Sir Francis Drake, visit the Dockyard and Warships by sea, ending the day at Plymouth Gin. Head left and cross the rugged Tors of Dartmoor, with its granite grey rocks looking down on you from above, with miles of lovely driving.
Cross the border into Somerset, the home of cider and Cheddar cheese, and make your way across to the city of Wells with its picturesque market square.
Take the road across the Somerset Levels, dropping down into Dorset, enjoy the lighter countryside and the pretty villages with great pubs, ending up in Bournemouth for one of the leading Pride events.
As an area, we are over 200 miles long and at the widest point, circa 90 miles across.
We enjoy pub meets, driving days, and great days at major static events where members enjoy camaraderie with fellow members whilst eating their picnics.
The South West has two Area Organisers, one based in Plymouth and one in Somerset in the village of Clapton…
I’m Jeremy. My partner, Michael, and I have been members for many years; I became Area Organiser (AO) about 10 years ago. Plymouth is our home; hence, three years ago, I invited John to join me as an assistant AO as he lives in Clapton in Somerset— we met through the club and have become good friends.
John has been a supportive member of the club for over 20 years; he is a very experienced and highly respected navigator, having been to rallies in many countries.
