Hello, I’m Philip Brown, the area organiser for Wales. I have been a club member for over five years when I purchased my CLK280 Convertible, which was a lockdown project, as whilst the car was in good condition, it needed some extreme TLC. I moved to Wales with my husband 32 years ago.
Wales is packed with spectacular driving roads that wind through mountains, along rugged coastlines, and across wide open moorland. In the north, routes like the Llanberis Pass (A4086) in Eryri National Park (Snowdonia) carve through dramatic glacial valleys beneath towering peaks, while the Horseshoe Pass (A542) offers sweeping views over the Dee Valley. Mid-Wales is quieter and wilder, with the remote Abergwesyn Pass and its steep “Devil’s Staircase” cutting through the Cambrian Mountains, and the scenic dams and reservoirs of the Elan Valley providing a gentler but equally beautiful drive.
Further south, the Black Mountain Pass (A4069) through Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons) is famous for its twisting hairpins and vast upland views, while coastal routes along Cardigan Bay and the North Wales coast combine sea cliffs, sandy beaches, and historic towns.
I hold monthly pub meetings and occasional events in the year, such as a museum visit, participation in a local car show, or visits to places of interest. I always welcome visiting club members to our spectacular region with some of the best driving roads in the country.
