On a bright and sunny Saturday in May, Brooklands broke
another record by hosting their rst LGBTQ+ event in
conjunction with Racing Pride. GCCG was keen to have strong
presence, and we had 18 cars on our stand from London,
Chilterns, Anglia, South Central and the Southeast areas.
Brooklands, the world’s rst purpose-built banked motor
racing circuit, opened in 1907, it set a plethora of speed and
endurance records and hosted the inaugural British Grand
Prix in 1926, won by a Delage 155B. There are plenty of cars
on display that raced at Brooklands including several Delages
and we had a track demonstration from a 1933 Napier-Railton
which still holds the lap record.
Brooklands was also at one point the largest aircraft
manufacturing site in the UK with the Vickers factory. There
are many Brooklands-built aircraft displayed on the site, such
as a Viscount, VC-10 and Vanguard. There is also a Concorde
on display and this proved popular for photos with many
GCCG members and their cars.
