I LOVE this car, and yes, the engine hangs out the back. But what a back end it has, and what an engine – a flat six boxer engine with twin sparkplugs, so 12 in total, and air-cooled. It growls magnificently.
It is the best looking ‘classic’ 911 ever made and I’ve wanted one ever since my dad brought me a model 911 when I was young.
The car had been restored to original spec, so rides slightly higher than you might expect. It had just had an engine rebuild, and fitted with new brakes and discs all round, so it was in really good condition.
It has some foibles (not a typical German trait) – the pedals are slightly offset in the RHD version, the fuel cap and engine boot lid release is on the passenger side and the driver can’t open the glove box because the lock is at the far side. These all made logical sense with the original LHD versions where they were all to hand.
