Known in Japan as the ‘Fairlady’, thanks to a musical-loving Nissan president, this 3.0-litre twin-turbo GT car is anything but dainty.
I never stop being surprised by the attention that it gets, including praise from two American tourists in Brighton! A fan of Japanese cars since seeing them in films and video games, I’ve always admired the 300ZX for its futuristic tech and iconic looks. Its headlights were so advanced, Lamborghini licensed them for the facelifted Diablo. I love the targa roof, dashboard pods (instead of stalks), and the effortless grunt in any gear.
Launched in 1989, the car was so powerful Nissan had to under-represent its true horsepower in order to comply with the Japanese car manufacturer’s ’Gentleman’s Agreement’ to curb the horsepower war. Stable, striking and superbly engineered, what’s not to love?
